Lana Del Rey is channeling her inner cult leader in her latest music video and yet… it’s kind of a snore.
Listen, I love me some Lana and the song, “Freak,” is one of my favorites of the album, but I guess I was just hoping for something more.
The video opens like a Universal Studios film, showing the sun rise as the globe turns in space.
We see Lana as she leads a bearded friend, played by Father John Misty, as they walk though a California hillside and sip on red Kool-aid.
After taking a tab of acid (or possibly a cinnamon Listerine breathe strip), Lana and her Charles Manson-looking companion trip out with a bunch of the girls from the “Music To Watch Boys To” music video.
The second half of the 11 minute video shows Lana, her friend and the girls swimming around to “Claire de Lune” in slow motion.
During the fan screening last night in Los Angeles, Misty revealed that he got the inspiration for the video from a time when he took acid at a Taylor Swift concert. Interesting.
Check out the video below…
I wasn’t expecting a giant, Lady Gaga-esque production or anything, I wasn’t even expecting a “Born To Die” era video. I guess I just needed something a little more than this.
Oh well, next time.
What did you guys think of the video? What should be the next single off Honeymoon?
